SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea is planning to bid to host a global climate summit in 2012, local media reported on Sunday.

The government delegation, which is attending an United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, told media that South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will deliver a keynote speech on Thursday at the summit, in which he will reveal a plan that Seoul will bid to host the 2012 U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The convention is held alternately on each continent every year, and the turn to host the 2012 summit will be awarded to an Asian nation, the delegation said.

The government is looking forward to a positive outcome as there are no negative views on Seoul's bidding to host the conference, it added.

This year's conference, attended by leaders from more than 190 nations, is expected to seal a deal to slow the pace of global climate change. Next year's climate summit is to be held in Mexico and the 2011 climate summit will be held in South Africa.
