TAICHUNG, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- An intangible cultural heritage exhibition jointly held by the Chinese mainland and Taiwan began here Saturday as a move to promote cross-Strait cultural exchanges.

The show put on display more than 800 articles from both the mainland and Taiwan. The mainland section, running from Dec. 12 to20, features more than 230 items of folk literature, traditional music and dance, drama, sports and medicine among others.

The exhibits include costumes worn by renowned Peking opera master Mei Lanfang and the original recording of "Moonlight on Second Spring" played by famous Erhu (Chinese two-string fiddle) musician A Bing.

The Taiwan part, organized by the island's cultural authorities, features some 600 items covering folk custom, performing arts and crafts among others. The section will last till Feb. 28, 2010.

Craftsmen from both sides were invited to the exhibition to perform their techniques such as paper cutting and visitors could communicate with them.

The show is a major activity for the first cross-Strait intangible cultural heritage month jointly held by the mainland-based China Friendship Association of Cultural Circles and the Taiwan-based Sheen Chuen-chi Cultural and Educational Foundation.
