Spain seeking release of vessel seized by Somali pirates

MADRID, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Spain's Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said on Monday that the government is making all its efforts to seek for the sooner release of the tuna-fish vessel "Alakrana," which was seized by Somali pirates, but respecting the judicial power.

Moratinos did not mentioned the decision of the Prosecutor's Office, which reportedly requested more than 200 years of prison for the Somali pirates who kidnapped the vessel.

He called for calm over the issue while seeking a prompt solution.

Meanwhile, Rear admiral Pert Hudson, responsible of the European mission against the piracy in Somalia, said on Monday that he will review Spain's proposal to raise the efficiency of the operation, like patrolling the three main "pirate ports" and to control the parent ships.

Piracy was rampant recently along the 2,000 km-long Somali coast.
