"The Romance of the Three Kingdoms," one of China's most enduring classic historical novels, is getting another TV adaptation. But compared to its 1994 predecessor, the new series features a spectacular cast of stars.
The current remake of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" features some of the best names in Chinese entertainment. Among them are top actors from Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as the Chinese mainland.
But the improvement goes even beyond the cast selection. The director and writers have tried to make rational revisions to the characterization of the original text.
Director Gao Xixi, said, "In portraying Zhuge Liang, we have tried to add a touch of mythicism. He was a brilliant military strategist and general. There are strong elements of Taoist thought in his conduct of the battles. For instance, he has a sound understanding of meteorology and astronomy, which was considered the trait of a demi-god in ancient times."
"The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is distinguished for its deep-rooted influence in China's traditional popular culture. For the TV remake, the production team is sparing no expense in recreating the three pivotal battles that took place in the second century AD.
