The first China Cartoon and Animation Art Exhibition opened in Beijing on Monday. More than 300 works are now on display chronicling the advancement of Chinese animation over the last 60 years.

The China Cartoon and Animation Art Exhibition is covering multiple mediums, ranging from the traditional drawings on paper to TV and film and stage performance. Over some three weeks until November the 18th, the event will unfold with a series of activities including forums and lectures that are open to the general public.

The exhibition presents major highlights in the history of China's contemporary cartoon art. Among the artists featured are well-established masters like Feng Zikai, Zhang Leping, and Ding Cong. The three-hundred-and-twenty-one works on display were all created over the six decades since the founding of New China. Modern achievements also figure prominently in the show, as demonstrations are being held on the latest technologies used in cartoon and animation creation.

The event is organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and is meant as a review of the growth and development of the country's cartoon making.
