There's another festival of great music happening in Macao. Last weekend, the 23rd Macao International Festival got underway in the special administrative region.
The opening show was held at the city's Cultural Center Theater. Titled "Yellow River and Butterfly Lovers", the event features the performances of two of the most prominent contemporary orchestral compositions in contemporary China, "The Yellow River Cantata" and the "Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto." Among the instrumentalists are renowned pianist Shi Shucheng and violinist Yu Lina. The festival is dedicating a number of its performances to the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China.
