Bangladeshi PM greets Obama on winning Nobel Peace Prize

DHAKA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday congratulated U.S. President Barack Obama on his winning of the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a message of congratulations, Hasina said Obama played a pivotal role in establishing world peace and bringing harmony among the people of different ethnic groups, religions and opinions.

Hasina appreciated Obama's diplomatic efforts in controlling nuclear weapons and developing relations with the Muslim world.

Hasina said Obama has encouraged all in dreaming of building a bright future for the next generation.

The prime minister expected more effective leadership from Obama for establishing world peace, alleviating poverty and ensuring socio-economic uplift of the developing countries.

Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced.
