Earthquake hits Samoa islands

BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 8.0 degrees on the Richter scale rocked Samoa islands at 1:48 a.m. (Beijing time) Wednesday, according to a monitoring provided by the Chinese seismological observatory.

The epicenter was monitored at 15.5 degrees south latitude and 172.2 degrees west longitude.
