BANGKOK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Researchers announced here Thursday a breakthrough in an experimental vaccine that has proved capable of reducing the chance of people's infection with the AIDS virus.

The research shows the vaccine can reduce the risk of HIV infection by more than 31 percent in the world's largest AIDS vaccine trial of some 16,000 volunteers. The trial was carried out jointly by the U.S. Army and the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.
