ISLAMABAD, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Wednesday said that the ruling party believes in politics of reconciliation, terming it necessary for the economic uplift of the country, according to TV channel reports.

"Only the political stability could bring the economic stability in Pakistan," the PM told media.

Gilani said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes in politics of reconciliation, which is necessary for the economic uplift of the country.

If PPP and the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Navaz (PML-N) had not shunned fighting, the country could not have attained growth, the PM said.

Gilani said that the terrorism was the biggest challenge for country's social and economical development, claiming that the government has succeeded in curbing the menace by its effective and prompt measures.

On July 31, Pakistani Supreme Court ruled that former President Musharraf's decision to impose emergency rule and dismiss dozens of senior judges in 2007 was unconstitutional.

Musharraf's rival and chief of PML-N Nawaz Sharif has been demanding the government put Musharraf on trial for suspending constitution and high treason. But Gilani said that the government will support only a consensus resolution on Musharraf's trial in the parliament.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari also said in August that PPP favors reconciliation in the case of Musharraf, and parliament will decide the fate of the ex-army chief.
