Following the latest overhaul in ten years, almost 27 kilometer part of the avenue, or more than half of the world's longest and widest avenue that goes through the heart of Beijing from east to west, has been expanded to 10 lanes for two-way traffic.

According to Li Xiaosong, spokesman and vice director of Beijing's Municipal Committee of Transport, the Chang'an Avenue's resurfacing work will not only dramatically improve Beijing's traffic capacity, but will also better facilitate the upcoming 60th National Day military parade.

The overhaul work included resurfacing and expansion of the main part of the avenue, and also the replacing of road-edge concrete bricks and the bricks for the pedestrian walks.
