Film celebrates founding of new China

"The Great Cause of New China's Foundation" is scheduled for nation-wide release on September 17th, to coincide with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China. Let's take a sneak peek of the commemorative film before it hits the big screen.

The film tells the story of the establishment of the multi-party cooperation and political consultation system during the period from August l945, when China won victory in its war against Japanese aggression, to October the 1st, l949, when New China was founded.

The project took more than three months to film. And nearly two-hundred actors of various generations have taken part setting a record in the history of Chinese films with the most actors appearing in one film.

Ge Cunzhuang and Ge You, father and son, teamed up for the film.

Actor Ge Cunzhuang said, "Ge You called me after his part was finished, asking me to join the cast. I said OK, no problem."

A number of actors made cameo appearances in the film.

Actress Zhang Ziyi said, "It is not important if your role has lines or not. It is the participation that counts. The film offers a chance for us actors, or cinema goers, to relive the past."

Actor Sun Honglei said, "Although my role has just several lines, I hope I can impress audiences with my performance. I don't want my part to be a come-and-go."

The film has wrapped up its post-production work. The final cut runs for two hours and fifteen minutes.
