Sweden is best known as a country of inventors. And the Sweden Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo is designed to give prominence to the timeless theme of innovation.

At the Shanghai World Expo, the Sweden Pavilion will showcase how the nation's spirit of innovation helps to solve problems and improve living standards. The main theme of the pavilion, which will cover 3,000 square meters, will show the interaction between urban and rural areas. The pavilion will be in the shape of a large square divided into four sections by a crossroads. The layout reflects the design of its national flag, and three sections will represent urban areas, while the other will be an open-air terrace representing nature.

The pavilion will include restaurants serving both Swedish and Chinese cuisine. The Swedish government will spend more than 22-million US dollars on Expo activities, and the pavilion itself will cost around 10-million.

The theme of the Shanghai World Expo, which is‘Better City, Better Life', is very similar with the theme of the Swedish national development. For many years, Sweden has been committed to sustainable development, and using its own slogan, "making city life better and better for all." The Sweden Pavilion aims to introduce the country's outstanding performance in science and technology, urbanization trends, social change, and fashion and design.
