LAGOS, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian federal government said on Tuesday in Abuja that it would declare a state of emergency in the labor sector, especially against unemployment and joblessness, the Nigerian Tribune newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Adetokunbo Kayode, Nigerian minister of labor and productivity, disclosed this when visiting executives of the New Horizons System, a computer learning center, visited his office.
The minister said the Nigerian federal government was set to declare a total war on unemployment and joblessness in the country with the use of information technology systems and operations, which was aimed at training unemployed Nigerians.
According to the minister, this will be the first time in the history of the country when the government will take a holistic and methodical approach towards solving the issue of unemployment and joblessness.
The minister recalled the setting up of an employment generation committee earlier in the year, to look into the issue of youth unemployment in Nigeria, with a view to putting a stop to the epidemic.
