New dialogue mechanism to promote China-U.S. relations: Chinese vice premier

WASHINGTON, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said here Monday that the new mechanism jointly launched by Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama in April will be a major step to promote China-U.S relationship.

Addressing the opening session of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED), Wang said President Hu has attached great importance to the first round of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue.

Wang read Hu's congratulatory letter to the opening session of the dialogue.

In his message to the opening session, Hu said that China and the United States shoulder important responsibilities on a host of major issues concerning peace and development of mankind.
