Obama: Iran's nuclear program not to be allowed

L'AQUILA, Italy, July 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said Friday G8 nations will not wait "indefinitely" to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

"World opinion is very clear," Obama told a press conference after the end of the Group of Eight (G8) Summit. "Our premise is that we provide the door, but we also say we're not going to just wait indefinitely and allow for the development of the nuclear weapon, the breach of international treaties."

Obama said further actions would be required if Iran would not change its position in the next few months.

Iran has rejected the U.S. blames for long, saying its nuclear program is designed for power generation, arguing that it is entitled to make use of nuclear energy.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said at the same occasion that Iran has made a tough statement. "We have not the time for sanctions, but the timing of the dialogue can not be too extended," he said.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, however, said that he would welcome immediate sanctions.
