MOSCOW, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Russia agreed to allow the U.S. troops and weapons to cross its territory to Afghanistan as the two heads of state signed a new arms reduction agreement Monday.

The two sides also agreed to cut deployed nuclear warheads to 1,500-1,675 within seven years, according to the new deal.

"Within seven years after this treaty comes into force, and in future, the limits for strategic delivery systems should be within the range of 500-1,100 units and for warheads linked to them within the range of 1,500-1,675 units," the agreement said.

The deal was signed during U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to Russia.
