Report: Iran's IRGC "to counter organized web crimes"

TEHRAN, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) had set up a new unit to counter organized crimes on websites, the official IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

The new IRGC unit which has been named "anti-cyber system" would engaged in campaigns against organized crimes, espionage, economic and social corruption, money laundering and cultural inroad through the internet, IRNA cited an announcement the source of which was not specified.

The IRGC's newly setup unit will closely cooperate with the country's judicial system to protect and safeguard "the invaluable achievements of the Islamic Revolution," the report said.

Earlier, IRGC had warned against the destabilizers of public security and law.

A statement released by IRGC last week said that in the current situation and following the recent clashes, the strategy of IRGC and security forces was to firmly confront the destabilizers of public security and law and the threats against the revolution.

The IRGC statement ordered demonstrators to "end the sabotage and rioting activities," warning Western countries not to support the rioters.

Turbulence overshadowed Tehran following the disputed presidential election on June 12.

On June 13, Iran's Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli announced incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won 62.63 percent of the total ballots on June 12, while his main rival Mir-Hossein Mousavigot 33.75 percent.

After the official declaration, Mousavi protested "strongly" the "obvious violations" in Iran's presidential election. He also appealed to the Guardian Council for the cancellation of the election results.

On Monday, an announcement of the Guardian Council, Iran's top legislative body, confirmed Ahmadinejad's re-election in a disputed June 12 presidential poll.
