The Ministry of Public Security set up a special operations office to crack down on online pornography in 2004.

Since then, the government has launched various nationwide crackdown campaigns on porn web sites.

The campaigns have shut down thousands of web sites that contain pornographic materials and millions of porn-related posts or messages have been deleted each year.
