MANAGUA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Participants of the 39th Organization of American States (OAS) general assembly in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula expressed sympathy to the relatives of the passengers of the missing Air France airliner, local media reported on Tuesday.

At the meeting, foreign ministers and delegates of the member states of the OAS expressed their deep concerns over the disappearance of the plane.

They also extended their deep regards to the relatives of the people aboard the plane as well as to the Brazilian and French governments.

The Air France Airbus A330 bound for Paris lost contact with the control center shortly after its takeoff from Rio de Janeiro as it was flying over the Atlantic Ocean in the early hours of Monday. The plane carried 216 passengers and 12 crew members.
