Bulgaria reports first case of A/H1N1 flu

SOFIA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian operative system for infectious diseases has identified the first confirmed case of the new H1N1 flu on June 1, 2009, the press center of the Health Ministry announced Monday.

The patient, 21-year-old Ivan Dimitrov, who is a student at Pennsylvania University in the U.S., arrived back for the holiday from New York on a flight via Amsterdam on May 27.

The first symptoms of a respiratory disease showed on May 29 and a day later he went to his doctor with full-blown flu symptoms.

The patient has been quarantined in a hospital for infectious diseases in the central city of Veliko Tarnovo, and is currently reported to be in good condition.

Four other persons who have been in close contact with the patient, have been examined and show no signs of the flu. They have been placed under medical monitoring. Samples have been taken from them the results of which are to be ready on Tuesday.
