NANJING, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung met here with Liang Baohua, secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) after arriving here Saturday afternoon.

Wu Poh-hsiung said the mainland and Taiwan achieved significant achievement in developing cross-Straits relations and the island saw closer cooperation with Jiangsu in terms of economy and culture among other aspects last year.

During his three-day stay in Nanjing, Wu is scheduled to visit the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Kuomintang Party and the forerunner of the anti-feudalism revolution in China, and would participate in activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the official burial of Dr. Sun in Nanjing.

"Dr. Sun is a great patriot He dedicated himself to the prosperity of the country and the revival of the Chinese nation," Liang said.

"The spiritual legacy Dr. Sun left deserves to be inherited and carried forward by all Chinese people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits," Liang added.
