LHASA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- More than 30 people were trapped after melted snow flooded and damaged part of a major road in Tibet on Thursday.

A heavy snow hit Ali in Tibet from Wednesday night to Thursday morning. Melted snow triggered flash floods, damaging the foundation of the Xinjiang-Tibet road at Rutog County, said Zhang Zhishuang, an armed police officer.

Fifteen vehicles and more than 30 people were stranded, but they were in good condition, according to Zhang.

Armed police are clearing snow drifts on the road and repairing damaged sections.

Weather forecasts said most of Tibet would have small to moderate snowfall Friday.
