People with disabilities in Baicheng city of northeastern Jilin province got a chance to shine Sunday on National Handicapped Day.

They are the performers and directors. Nearly one hundred handicapped people presented a two-hour long performance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the local Baicheng Federation of disabled people. Among the nearly 150 thousand citizens in Baicheng, about seven percent are handicapped people. With the help of the local government, 70 percent of them have jobs.

Yang Yajie, the mayor of Baicheng city of Jilin province said, "Taking up an occupation is very important for disabled people. We have been insisting on supporting them on this point through various favorable polices. A job not only offers a practical rebound but also encouragement for the spirit. And we'll continue trying our best to do better and better to help the handicapped people in Baicheng city. "

Yang Guang, a well-known blind singer -songwriter, lost his sight as an infant. But he never quit his dream of singing and finally made it come true in 2007 on a popular talent show on China Central Television. Yang says his singing has encouraged more disable people to reach for their dreams.
