Earlier in this lunchtime program, we have you an update on the global flu outbreak as the number of infections continues to rise. Meanwhile, a week has passed since China's first case was confirmed in Chengdu in Sichuan.
The news raised awareness amongst locals in the southwest province to keep clean to prevent any possible spread. As we see now, Chengdu has put in place an emergency plan to guarantee the sanitation of its public transport.
Liu Tao is a driver for a local car rental company. There is one thing he has to do after coming back from work each day----clean his vehicle from top to bottom. This is his company's new rule in the light of A/H1N1 flu.
Liu Tao said, " I keep all the vehicle's windows open all day long to improve air flow. I disinfect my tires and scrub all the parts our passengers touch. In addition, I often wash my hands. I think I will keep these clean habits even after the crisis."
The windows of all the city's taxis and buses have to be kept open to allow air to flow through the vehicle. Local authorities rule that all public transport vehicles should be cleaned twice every day. The Chengdu Municipal Government has also prepared emergency plans.
He Jun, spokesperson of Chengdu Municipal Health Administration, said, "Our back-up vehicles-ambulances, passenger cars and good vans- are all in place. Our hospitals and medical staff are all fully prepared for the potential outbreak of the A/H1N1 flu. We are ready for the action."
The local government has also released a video clip showing the conditions of those in quarantine. Some of them are expected to be able to leave isolation on Saturday."
